Holy Cross Health (Holy Cross Hospital) is a Catholic, not-for-profit hospital on N. Federal Highway in Fort Lauderdale, part of Trinity Health and serving Broward County since 1955. Its main campus is supported by outpatient sites across Broward County.

If you're sending flowers here, one line on the hospital's visiting page changes the whole plan: delivery personnel are stopped at the entrance, and the recipient must retrieve the delivery. In practice, that means a bouquet doesn't travel to the room on its own. Someone has to come down for it.

What Holy Cross Health (Holy Cross Hospital) allows

Holy Cross doesn't publish a rule on flowers in patient rooms, nor on balloons or plants. So we can't tell you whether every floor takes flowers. What we can tell you is how deliveries are handled, and that's the bigger hurdle.

Because the recipient has to collect the delivery, a patient who can't leave the bed depends on a family member, friend or staff member to go to the entrance. Before you order, call (954) 771-8000 and ask two things: whether flowers are fine on the patient's unit, and who will collect a florist delivery at the door. As general practice, intensive care and cancer units in many hospitals keep fresh flowers out; that's a norm, not a stated Holy Cross rule.

Based on the hospital's own website, checked October 29, 2026.

Where the delivery goes

Coordinate with the family first. The cleanest setup is to have the florist deliver during a window when a relative is visiting, so they can meet the driver at the main entrance. Holy Cross recommends visiting between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m. so patients get enough rest, and the main entrance is open daily from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. After 8 p.m., visitors have to come in through the Emergency Department and get a guest badge from Security, so a late evening delivery is a bad idea.

On the order, include the patient's full name, the hospital name, 4725 N. Federal Highway, Fort Lauderdale, FL, and the name and phone number of the person who will collect it. Ask the florist to call that person on arrival. If nobody is available, consider delivering to the patient's home after discharge instead, or bringing the flowers in yourself. Our same-day cutoffs help you time it.

If flowers aren't an option

With deliveries stopped at the door, the most reliable gifts at Holy Cross are often the ones a visitor carries in by hand. A card, a small book, a framed photo or a soft blanket all fit in a bag and need no pickup arrangements. If a local friend is visiting anyway, ask them to bring a small arrangement with them.

What to send to a patient here

Since someone will carry it from the entrance to the room, keep it light: a compact arrangement in a sturdy vase or a hand-tied bouquet with a water pouch. Avoid tall or very heavy pieces. In a Catholic hospital, a card with a short prayer or blessing can be meaningful to many patients, though a simple warm note works just as well. See get-well flowers for picks and what to write on the card for wording.
