Baptist Medical Center Jacksonville is the flagship of Baptist Health, a tertiary hospital with 545 licensed beds at 800 Prudential Drive on the south bank of the St. Johns River. It shares its downtown campus with Wolfson Children's Hospital, which is worth knowing: if the patient is a child, they may be in Wolfson rather than the adult hospital, and the address alone won't tell a florist which building.

The hospital doesn't publish a flower policy anywhere on its site. We checked the visitor pages and the sitemap and found no flower rule.

What Baptist Medical Center Jacksonville allows

With nothing in writing, we can't tell you which units accept flowers. That silence covers balloons and potted plants as well. What Baptist does publish is a visitor policy: up to four visitors in a room during visiting hours, 5 a.m. to 9 p.m., and in adult ICUs every visitor must be at least 12.

Here is our advice. Call (904) 202-2000 and ask the operator to connect you to the patient's unit. Ask two things: are fresh flowers fine there, and what is the best time for a delivery? As a general rule in US hospitals, intensive care, oncology and newborn units are the places most likely to say no to fresh flowers and latex balloons. That is common practice, not something Baptist has posted.

Where the delivery goes

Since the hospital names no delivery desk, write the order so anyone at the front can route it:

  • Patient's full name as registered.
  • The building or tower, and the room, if the family knows it.
  • Your phone number and the name of a family member on site.

The street address is 800 Prudential Drive, Jacksonville, FL 32207. Daytime delivery within visiting hours gives the best odds. Patients can take phone calls between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m., so a quick call to the room itself, if you have the number, is another way to check before you send.

Watch the discharge date. Short stays are common, and a bouquet that arrives after the patient leaves has nowhere to go.

If flowers aren't an option

If the unit says no, there are other ways to reach someone at Baptist. A phone call during the 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. window, a mailed card, or a visit within the four-visitor limit can mean as much as a bouquet. Families looking for a quiet moment may also appreciate knowing about the Reid Chapel on the first floor of the Wolfson Family Adult Tower, where chaplains are available around the clock. Flowers sent to the home after discharge avoid every hospital rule.

What to send to a patient here

For an adult patient on a regular floor, a compact vase arrangement or a low bowl of seasonal stems works well. Skip heavy fragrance like lilies in a room that may hold four visitors. If the patient is a child at Wolfson, a balloon bouquet or plush toy may be better received than flowers; check first. Our get-well flowers guide has more ideas.
